WOW…what can I say about the internet and social media. Yes, Twitter, Facebook and You Tube etc. Are some of the greatest forms of social media ever invented. Its great to hook up with lost friends and family, old class mates, teachers that influenced your life.

But hold up, that’s not what is happening. We get calls constantly from agents and managers because, their clients are twitting large jewelry purchases, their travel schedules, new car purchases, vacation locations etc.. Ladies and Gentlemen this makes you a sitting duck for thieves and criminals to target your home and frequented locales for robbery attempts.

Be cautious about what you tweet and state on your Facebook profile about your life and activities.

Safety Tips To Follow

1)When you shop or dining out, use valet as often as possible and don’t leave money and expensive purchases in your vehicle, be aware of your surroundings as you depart.

2)When you complete shopping or leave a location make sure that you are not being followed by a curious fan or admirer. Use and trust your intuition and common sense.If you see a vehicle behind you too long in traffic, make an unexpected turn or stop in a well lighted and secure area. and phone the police, if needed.  Never take a chance, because these days an angry encounter can turn deadly !

3)When you travel use luggage that requires a key and utilize the hotel safe for expensive items and make sure all items have been insured, documented and photographed , in case there is a theft and you need proof for an insurance claim.

STAND YOUR GROUND LAW

A stand-your-ground law states that a person may use deadly force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without an obligation to retreat first. In some cases, a person may use deadly force in public areas without a duty to retreat. Under these legal concepts, a person is justified in using deadly force in certain situations and the “stand your ground” law would be a defense or immunity to criminal charges and civil suit. The difference between immunity and a defense is that an immunity bars suit, charges, detention and arrest. A defense permits a plaintiff or the state to seek civil damages or a criminal conviction. More than half of the states in the United States have adopted the Castle doctrine, stating that a person has no duty to retreat when their home is attacked. Some states go a step further, removing the duty of retreat from any location. “Stand Your Ground”, “Line In The Sand” or “No Duty To Retreat” laws thus state that a person has no duty or other requirement to abandon a place in which he has a right to be, or to give up ground to an assailant. Under such laws, there is no duty to retreat from anywhere the defender may legally be.[1] Other restrictions may still exist; when in public, a person must be carrying the firearm in a legal manner, whether concealed or openly.

CITIZEN ARREST

United States

Each state, with the exception of North Carolina, permits citizen arrests if the commission of a felony is witnessed by the arresting citizen, or when a citizen is asked to assist in the apprehension of a suspect by police. The application of state laws varies widely with respect to misdemeanors, breaches of the peace, and felonies not witnessed by the arresting party. For example, Arizona law allows a citizen’s arrest if the arrestor has personally witnessed the offense occurring.[35]

American citizens do not carry the authority or enjoy the legal protections held by police officers, and are held to the principle of strict liability before the courts of civil- and criminal law including, but not limited to, any infringement of another’s rights.[36] Nonetheless many citizens’ arrests are popular news stories.[37]

Though North Carolina General Statutes have no provision for citizens’ arrests, detention by private persons is permitted and applies to both private citizens and police officers outside their jurisdiction.[38] Detention is permitted where probable cause exists that one has committed a felony, breach of peace, physical injury to another person, or theft or destruction of property.[39] Detention is different from an arrest in that in a detention the detainee may not be transported without consent.

The District Marketing Group is excited to introduce the WORLD CHAMPIONS AGAINST BULLYING TOUR, to Atlantic County, NJ. A press conference to announce this event will be held at the AtlantiCare Behavioral Health’s Family Success Center, located at the New York Avenue School in Atlantic City, NJ on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 11am.

 

Attendees of the press conference shall include: Ms. Rosalind Norrell-Nance, Director of Atlantic City’s Family Centers; Mr. Roy Foreman, President of World Champions Against Bullying and Harris Haith WCAB” co-founder/Chairman; also invited are local elected officials and community leaders.

 

World Champions Against Bullying (WCAB), is an anti-bullying support group, founded by Harris Haith, and Curtis Cumbo in partnership with the World Boxing Council (WBC) and its affiliate, World Boxing Council Cares (WBCC) is seeking sponsors for its upcoming event.
WCAB’s mission is to bring current and former world champion fighters together to take a stand and combat the issue of bullying in our nation’s schools and recreation centers, by embarking on a tour to promote self confidence, self esteem, and the importance of physical fitness, and proper nutrition. Every bullying issue will be addressed, including the new wave of cyber-bullying that is now spreading.  WCAB observes and complies with each school, center, or group’s rules and regulations; and upon request, the Champs will even teach the children boxing self defense techniques.

Former World Champion, Imamu Mayfield, will serve as a spokesperson for WCAB, along with President Roy Foreman, CFO Everett Hopkins and Executive Director Bill McCrearyWCAB believes that together we can make a difference, and keep our children safe, and WCAB stands ready to accept that challenge.

 

This initiative will be officially launched on St. Patrick’s Day in New York City in the presence of worldwide media. We would like to bring this program to Atlantic City on the following Monday, March 19th 2012, and we are seeking local sponsors to make this event one that will leave a lifelong impression on Atlantic County’s youth.

 

This eventful day will begin with a press conference during which past and present World Champions will discuss the tour’s initiative and its sponsors.  Following the press conference, there will be visits to local schools and, the day will conclude with a semi-formal cocktail reception at Il Mulino New York at Trump Taj Mahal from 6-10pm.
